One of the most anticipated events of the year on Devon’s stunning coast is flying into town once again this summer, with a slightly different name. Replacing the long running Brixham Heritage Festival is the ‘BrixFest 2012′, and organisers are appealing for all birdmen and women to step forward and volunteer themselves for one of the festivals headline events, the Birdman competition. An area in Dorset has been targeted by the government in a scheme which will look to boost wildlife, help rare species and restore habitats across theUK. The ‘nature improvement areas’ will share a £7.5 million fund over the next three years, which will help to introduce to Wild Purbeck, near Poole, livestock to manage heathland, restore wetland, create and restore 15 ponds, create 120 hectares of new woodland and a new saline lagoon. This year will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Cockington Apple Day, a festival that has become one of the English Riviera’s most popular events during the last two decades. It brings a marvellous array of the fruits, as well as the best of local foods, homemade crafts and of course, plenty of cider. Funny man Chris Addison has confirmed he will be bringing his brand new show to the south coast this summer. Having received detailed planning permission, the eagerly awaited Nautilus development project is set to begin this autumn, leaving the town with arguably the greatest leisure hub on the south coast. Having been already mentioned in previous news, the Nautilus development is a £50 million project, dramatically changing the landscape of the town.
